Prompt Repairs After An RV Accident Are A Must

An RV is a massive motor vehicle, so a minor accident resulting in minimal damage isn't much to be concerned about, right? Not exactly. The size of the vehicle has no impact on its safety after an accident. Whenever an RV is damaged in a collision, prompt RV collision repairs are a must.

Wheel Well Damage

An RV might sit several feet higher than the average car, SUV, or truck. However, their wheels are on the ground just like every other vehicle. In the event of a side-impact collision, it's incredibly important to have your RV inspected and repaired by a collision professional.

Any damage to the wheel well will, in turn, impact the performance of the tires. A bent wheel well can make maneuvering the RV harder, especially at high speeds, cause the tire tread to wear away faster, and even cause you to lose some of your stopping power. All of these scenarios only increase your risk for a dangerous accident in the future.

Fluid Leaks

As massive as your RV is, when it comes to the engine, transmission, and other major system compartments, there is not a lot of extra space. For this reason, even a minor collision that results in damage to these areas can lead to a fluid leak.

For example, if a truck backed into the RV and dented the engine cabinet, the impact might have been enough for a hole to form that allows oil to leak. An oil leak can cause significant damage to the engine which could cause it to completely fail, or at the very least, cause costly repairs.

Roof Damage

Consider a situation where you didn't gauge the height of your RV correctly, tried to drive under a structure that was too low, but you quickly backed up. While it might seem like you averted any problems, it's not always the case.

If even a small portion of the roof was damaged, the issue is enough to lead to greater issues. For example, with even a small hole, moisture can penetrate through the roof and leak inside the RV. Even worse, the longer the hole remains, the more moisture will get inside and the greater the damage.

If your RV was damaged in a minor collision, it's essential you move to have performs repaired right away. Not only are you increasing your risk of a future accident by avoiding repairs, but you are also increasing the likelihood of further damage to your vehicle.
